Who may apply
- International students applying for undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo
- Students who are citizens of countries with diplomatic relations with Japan
- Applicants who meet the age criteria: generally under 25 for undergraduate applicants; under 35 for master’s and PhD applicants
- Must be in good physical and mental health
- Fully funded program (slots vary depending on university allocation)

Qualifications
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Must be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan
- Must have an excellent academic record at the previous level of study
- Must meet the age requirement for the specific degree level
- Must be willing to learn the Japanese language and adapt to Japanese culture
- Must submit proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL or an English Proficiency Certificate from the previous institution)
- Must be in good health as certified by the MEXT health form
- Must complete the required documents for either undergraduate, master’s, PhD, or research-student track
